Surjit S Bhalla's (Oxus Research & Investments) econometric model

Of the total number of elections for which data has been fitted into the econometric model, the model got 20 elections right. Of the 18 state elections, they got it right in 15 cases. Last November, during the assembly polls, Bhalla's model predicted a 13.5 per cent swing in favour of the Congress -- of which 9.1 per cent was due to the sharp rise in prices, especially onions, during the previous few months -- while the actual swing was 14.9 per cent.

Using economic indicators since 1977, Bhalla finds a very good correlation between GDP growth, inflation patterns and vote share. Bhalla's analyses shows, for instance, that whenever the Congress has been in power a one per cent hike in economic growth results in its vote share increasing by 1.7 per cent. Similarly, a one per cent hike in inflation rates makes its vote share fall 1.3 per cent.

Electronics Industry - India - Policy, Plan and Programmes

http://deity.gov.in/esdm

India has seen huge consumer demand for electronic goods fuelled by a phenomenal GDP growth. The demand for electronics hardware in the country is projected to increase from USD 45 billion in 2009 to USD 400 billion by 2020 (Source: Task Force on Electronics Report).

The estimated production in the country  with the current trend basis will reach only  USD 104 billion by the year 2020, creating a gap of USD 296 billion between demand and production. This creates a unique opportunity for multinational and foreign companies in the ESDM (Electronic System Design & Manufacturing) sector to look at India as their next destination to cater to the domestic Indian demand as well as act as an exports hub.

Information Technology for Political Party - India

Narendra Modi has used IT to the best advantage in India so far for political campaigning.
Modi's (BJP's) Social Media and Mobile Campaign Strategy

AAP also used it very imaginatively. They uploaded the details of the donors to the party and got  a lot of appreciation for it.

Now congress is also using IT in aggressive manner.

India - 12th Five Year Plan - 2012-17

http://planningcommission.gov.in/plans/planrel/12thplan/welcome.html

Agriculture

The average of annual growth rates of GDP in agriculture and allied sectors during the Eleventh
Five Year Plan is now placed at 3.7 per cent. This is short of the target of 4 per cent

Industry

Needs processes for rapid learning

1. Interaction between diverse components of
the system—R&D, producers, customers,
Government, institutes of skill development and so
on.
• Cluster development
• FDI and JVs
• Industry/research institute/academia partnership
• Higher education in the country
2. Creating ‘safe-failing’ spaces for experimentation
by firms
• Access to risk capital, technology funds
• Subsidy on interest costs
• PPP model of funding
3. Creating a regime of ‘Standards’ • Setting up a system of National Standards benchmarked to International
Standards
4. IP regime, which helps firms to build on each
other’s innovation
• Effective ‘IP’ regime
• Improving awareness of IP
5. System-wide improvement: Processes such as "Total Industrial Engineering",  ‘Total Quality Management’ and Total Productive Maintenance.
• Mainly the firm’s role to adopt such tools and increase organisational learning
• Nation-wide, and State-wide campaigns to improve "Total Productivity" and  ‘Total Quality’ in all enterprises, including MSMEs, should be sponsored by Government through institutions such as National Productivity Council,  Quality Council of India etc.

(Note: Productivty and Industrial Engineering are not there in the 12th plan document.)

Indian real wages fell in 2008-11: ILO report - What does it mean?

Indian real wages fell in 2008-11: ILO Global Wage Report 2012-13.

India’s real wages fell 1% between 2008 and 2011, while labour productivity grew 7.6% in the same period.

China’s real wage growth was 11% in 2008-11, while labour productivity expanded 9%. India’s real wage growth was 1% in 1999-2007, while labour productivity rose by 5%. In 1999-2007, China’s real wage growth was 13.5%, while labour productivity growth was 9%,

The  sources of data on wage growth in India are the Annual Survey of Industries by the Central Statistics Office and the real wage index published by the Labour Bureau.

India’s average gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate in 1999-2007 was 6.9% and 7.7% in 2008-11.

Total hourly compensation costs in manufacturing were estimated at $1.36 in China for 2008 and at $1.17 in India for 2007.

The Union government introduced the variable dearness allowance (VDA) concept in 1989 in order to protect the minimum wage against inflation. The appropriate governments are required to increase the minimum rates of wages from time to time by adding VDA, twice a year or annually, taking into account the rise in the consumer price indices for industrial workers. In the central sphere, the minimum rates of wages are revised effective from 1 April and 1 October every year.

Outside of Toyota City, the best manufacturing operation is in Chennai, says James P Womack, the founder-chairman of Lean Enterprise Institute, a non-profit educational and research organisation. That is evidence that Indian companies can implement and sustain “lean” systems.
