The Food Processing Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, promoted by Parry Infrastructure Co Pvt Ltd, part of the Murugappa Group,  commenced operations.

Spread over 250 acres, the SEZ, first such facility in Andhra Pradesh, is strategically located close to Kakinada port and many agro-input farms.

The first customer Silk Road Sugar Pvt Ltd, had set up a Rs. 325-crore sugar refinery unit in the SEZ.

Eisai Opens New Manufacturing and Process Research Base in India

Eisai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President and CEO: Hauro Naito) today announced the completion of construction of the Eisai Knowledge Centre, India, the Company’s new manufacturing and process research base in India. Eisai will advance preparations such as technical transfer, process validation, stability test, towards the full scale operations scheduled to start by the end of fiscal year 2010.

The new facility will be Eisai’s first base to integrate Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and formulation manufacturing and API process research functions on one site. Eisai has made a total investment of approximately five billion yen on a 50-acre campus in the Special Economic Zone at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City located in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh in south India.

Eisai Knowledge Centre, India was built with the aim of creating a future global hub capable of ensuring a stable supply of high quality pharmaceutical products and achieving innovation in API synthesis processes that will provide the platform for producing such products. In addition to the manufacturing of APIs and formulations of its major products such as the Alzheimer’s disease treatment Aricept®, Eisai plans to conduct API process research and manufacture API and formulations of the company’s next generation global products. After the opening of the Eisai Knowledge Centre, India, the Company’s API production will be handled by this facility together with the Kashima plant, Eisai’s another manufacturing plant in Japan.

With the operation of the Eisai Knowledge Centre, India, Eisai will further promote its hhc (human health care) philosophy and will continue to contribute to increasing the benefits of patients and their families around the globe by ensuring a stable supply of high quality pharmaceutical products that meet the various needs of different countries and markets around the world.

Ramky Pharma City (India) Limited is a most successful Public-Private initiative. It is a Special Purpose Vehicle launched by Ramky group and APIIC, a government of Andhra Pradesh enterprise with equity participation. The total Extent of the City is spread over 2400 acres with assortment of facilities required for Pharma industry.

A total of 58 industries have been registered till date. . The presence of leading international players like Eisai Pharma technology (I) Pvt ltd, a Japanese Pharma giant, M/s PharmaZell (I) Pvt ltd., a Company belonging to a German Pharma group, M/s. SNF (I) Ltd with French collaboration, M/s Aptuit Laurus Labs with the US collaboration brings into India, the latest technology pertaining to Pharma manufacturing. All these players have their own strategies for expansion. These are placed among the Indian Pharma leaders like Smilax Laboratories, Glochem, Orchid, Emmennar Biotech etc.The current employment status is to the tune of 5000 plus and once it becomes fully operational, it has the capacity to generate an employment potential of 30,000. Setting up of JNPC :

An initiative taken by the government of Andhra Pradesh to develop an exclusive hub for Bulk Drug, Pharmaceuticals, Chemical and allied industries under “Public–Private- Partnership”.
M/s APIIC a government agency and M/s Ramky Group formed a consortium and launch a Special Purpose Vehicle - M/s Ramky Pharma City (India) Limited to implement the Pharma City Project.
The Govt of Andhra Pradesh named the Pharma city as Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City vide G.O.Ms.No. 52 Ind.& Comm. (INF).Dept., dt 21.2.2005.
