About the Plant
IndoSolar is commissioning a fully robotic high efficiency, 360 megawatts photovoltaic solar cell manufacturing facility.
Investment: Rs. 1545 crores and factory area: 3,00,000 (300,000) sq.ft.
Phase I of 160 megawatts will be completed by June 2009. Total capacity of 360 MW will be commissioned by March 2010.
Financial year 2012 will have export potential of Rs. 3600 annually (Check from another source).
The PV solar cell will have a minimum maintenance free life span of 25 years.
By 2020, solar cell production may reach 5000 MW in India. Indosolar has plans to reach 1000 Mw by 2015.
Solar energy is expected to represent 60% of world electricity production by the turn of the century. Presently solar energy facilities installed have about 10 GW and by 2012 it will go up to 52GW. (Source: Photon Consulting)

In the 11th plan (2007-12) 60 cities are to be developed as solar cities. Thane is one of them. As per Government directive all Government buildings should meet 10% fo their energy needs through renewable energy by the year 2010, progressively increasing to 20% by 2020 and 30% by 2030.
1000 MW capacity of solar power is to be achieved by the end of 12th plan 2017
India recently unveiled a plan calling for 20GW of solar power production by 2020. Its 2040 target is 200 GW of solar power.

Second production line of 80 MWp of Photovoltaic cell was inaugurated by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India on 20.4.2010.
The first production line installed was for 80 MW.
